Violating the friend zone! Don’t end up left holding the phone with no one to talk to!
#Survivingmlm
Don’t lose everyone who knows you just to find a few business partners. Take your time and realize that in business you market and sell to people who want your product. There is never a need to constantly bombard your timeline. Never a need to make people feel like you have joined a cult and you are “un-friending” anyone who does not follow along. You will be successful in any business if along the way you learn to attract people and not piss off people.
OMG! I am so glad I did not have social media when I first joined this industry. I would have lost a lot of my “friends” on line within a month. Or at least they would have hid me from their timeline. Why, you may be asking. Because it would have seemed easy to just sit back and post all day everyday about my new business.
Day one “Man I am so excited I just joined.....”
Day two “I just used the product, it is so great this is what happened......”
Day three or week three “I just got a check of _______ man I love this”
Day four of month one “man people who work a job are missing out”
And it continues...then post testimonial everyday. Then post my check. Then post how my life is so much better than everyone else’s. Then post another check. Then post someone else’s check in my up line that makes more money.
Then my social media friends would have been thinking:
Day one “Oh that’s nice Mikal joined a new business”
Day two “Oh he must be really excited because he posted 2 days in a row”
Day three “Great you got a check Mikal, but I make 10x’s more than that”
Day four “I actually love my job and Mikal is starting to be an ass about this”
Does this sound like anyone you know? If so please do not tag them lol
Yep this would have been me. But there was not such thing as Facebook, Instagram or any social media when I joined network marketing. So how did I make it? I learned to have conversations with people. A conversation is transactional. A pitch is usually one directional. That means that I learned to connect with people on a common interest first. Then see if they were open to hear about what I did for a living or about my new business. Then give them some info based on how they wanted it. Some people wanted to look at a video, some wanted to meet for coffee, some wanted to attend a meeting. Now you have things like zoom or Skype. Point being, I let my friends decide if they wanted to business with me. I never made it seem like either you do business with me, or that is the end of our friendship.
Most people do not know how to use social media to attract those that are looking. Most people use social media to blow a trumpet in everyone’s ear!
That is not the best way to do business. The thing people love about social media is the illusion of choice. Now I will not spend time on why I say illusion but trust me social media is more concerned about social engineering. But since this is about surviving and having success in mlm, I will stick to that topic.
You may have already made the mistake. Or you have already learned from it. People follow you on social media because of you. It is your brand. Let’s think about branding for a moment. When Coca-Cola comes out with a new flavor do they blast all the ingredients on their social media page? Hell no! They show you the image of someone enjoying their product.
When you are launching with a company it is not the worst thing to mention it. Just do not make you new company your everyday post. Don’t go hard and call anyone with a 9-5 a sheep, and act like you are Moses leading them to a promise land of home based business wealth. No one wants to feel like they are a dummy for not doing what you do or using your product.
When joining a new company or when your company makes a major announcement, I am sure you get all excited and want the world to know. But how did your company make the announcement. Did they just post it on Facebook? Or did they build up the anticipation of the announcement? Did they post some teasers about it, and then you got on a call or went to an event and heard all of the details. That is how you should treat anyone in your social media audience. Give them the respect your company gave you. Gradually allow people to be open to what you do.
One this is for sure, when you let people see something for themselves they usually make a better decision. Not only that, they make better decisions based on solid information.
Have the spirit of a prospector. Back in the gold rush days prospectors did a lot of preparation before they went to get the gold. They traveled to where the gold was. Then they got the proper tools to find the gold. Then they learned what gold actual looked like and how to tell the real gold from what was fake gold. Also known as fool’s gold.
That is what we do in network marketing if we want success. Think like a prospector.
My goal is to help you survive the network marketing system. Not drown in the stream of success. You should be flowing with the stream and not becoming a victim of it. Maybe that is why we call it a stream of income. Water is cruel and a blessing depending on the person using it and the circumstance. Let’s work together to make sure you are using this stream of network marketing. Learn to properly use it and allow the network-marketing stream to carry you to a new destination of wealth.

That is what we do in network marketing if we want success. Think like a prospector.
- Where is the gold located? Maybe the best place to look for people are in social groups on social media and not just your timeline!
- Put your pan in the streams? The prospector did not pan for gold by watching. The found the flowing stream and began to dip the pan over and over until they found gold. You should be posting and connecting with people in social streams. Find where people who are looking for what you have like to hang out online.
- Take your gold to be verified and purified! Once you find a person who has interest don’t just overwhelm them. Take the time to filter them through the information to see if they are real. Do they really want an opportunity? Then allow them to go through your companies learning system and grow with time.
